Arty Party was a great success

The first Arty Party was so much fun. everyone laughed and painted and had a bit to drink (if they wanted to) and the December is all sold out, but we have a waiting list and if it gets to be more than 5 we will just have another December party! I'm also starting to teach Beginners Art Classes. Check out the Painted Prairie Art Gallery, or call 970-630-8333 for more info.

Setting up the Gallery

I am setting up my new Gallery, the name is registered....the Painted Prairie Art Gallery, and yesterday I got my sales tax license here in Colorado, so things are moving along, My daughter, Cristal helped me paint 4 rooms, now that is done, there is just a bit more work to be done before I can get everything out, but it's moving along. I have paintings hung, but the gift shop stuff still has some doing before it's ready. Today I got my supplies to start making handmade soap, that is a new and fun thing, I won't start that till I get back from Kerrville. Tomorrow I head to Kerrville to get a load of art and stuff that had to wait, I expect the car will be full to the top on the return trip! I can't wait to see my friends in Kerrville again, it will be a while before I make that drive again!!

"Red Dog Meditating" just sold

Look at my older posts to find the picture of "Red Dog Meditating"

Hey, the painting Red Dog Meditating just left the Guadalupe Art Dogs Gallery on it's way to a new home, I'm so excited about it, selling a piece of art is so rewarding, it really is meaningful that a person appreciates the work you have done and wants to buy it to take home and put on their wall to enjoy. I can't express really well how much it means to an artist to get that sort of positive response. You know it takes years of making art (usually) to get to the point that an artist feels that they have something of value to share with the world, and then so often the outside world says "it's lovely" but doesn't mean it...(ie. doesn't buy it and take it home). When a person buys it, it means that they REALLY like it, they aren't just "saying that"......I'm just gushing, forgive me, after all it's been a long time since I sold a piece, the economy is tough on artists.

Here it is, the long awaited new work, just finished, "Tree of Creation". Here is the story that goes with it. In the beginning time, the great Mother thought of growing something smaller than stars and galaxies, she thought of how something small might be connected, might branch out and grow, as a small thing, as a tree perhaps, she thought of how rivers might flow, and how all sorts of small things might connect, and this is her thought.

Big news

This is my big news, I am going to move to Colorado, to be near my Daughter and Grand kids, I have just decided to open a small shop, selling beautiful things, my daughter is also an artist so we won't have trouble filling the shop, I'm so excited that I can't stop smiling. I will miss all my friends here in Kerrville but life is an adventure, and it has to be lived, I will be posting some photos of new art work soon so check back. My blog will continue with renewed enthusiasm.

Green Pup

This little green puppy is so happy to be alive, he can think of nothing better than love, and kisses and of course dog food!

Stone Fish

I am finally sitting down to write, here is one photo of my new work, the title is "Stone Fish". If you think about the thing for a moment it can be rather interesting, it is subtle. I took a lovely big green painting to HCAF yesterday between rain showers, I still need to take a pic of it. and I have been making hand dyed scarves, took 7 to Guadalupe Art Dogs Gallery last Saturday and sold 5 before the day was out! I will photo some of them to show too. but not right now.

Grandmother Spider weaving the Cosmic Web

Perhaps you have heard of Grand Mother Spider. She is a very ancient God, she is the first God of many ancient peoples around the world. The Story is that she wove the tapestry of the universe, and she weaves it still, she even now is weaving the Cosmic Web, and as each new creature or thing comes into existence she leaves one thread connecting each and every creation with all of the rest of Creation. I knew of this story and one day I was looking at some new findings in science and there was a picture of the Cosmic Web, it seems that it is real and scientists have recently discovered it. However, they have not found Grand Mother Spider yet! I think she is too crafty to let herself be found easily.

....Then the Mother conceived of an idea, and out of the starry silence, came a rumble of thunder. The sound of thunder came with a flash of new stars given life by it's crash. Thunder was born and with it all sound. And the Mother began to sing and her songs set the planets and stars to spinning, spinning and swirling, and it has been so ever since and will be so forever after, without end. The sound of Creation.

Hi, it's been cold and now it's raining, so I have been painting, I have one in the works but this one is done so I thought everyone might enjoy it.
the story of this one is that it's the Queen of Heaven and she is about to begin in the creation of it all, see the spiral in her hand? I especially like her hat, I think the Queen of Heaven should wear a wonderful hat, don't you? The photo is less than I hoped for, but she has a high gloss finish so there was some shine that was unavoidable, sorry.

Long long ago and far far away.....

This new painting actually looks better, a lot better, in the real world. I long for my old 35. Even after I adjust the colors to try to get it like it really is, I'm still not impressed. I don't have a story to go with this painting yet, I'll sleep on it and maybe something will come to me.

Creating a Personal Mythology

During the process of making art, over time I have begun, rather accidentally to create a personal mythology. It has been evolving for several years now, the start of it was when I made 2 pieces of "mail art" for a show at the Hill Country Art Foundation, the pieces were small in size and that seems right for the seed of an idea, small is what we expect, like an acorn that grows into a giant tree over time. I think the over time part is the important thing to remember, so often I get caught up wanting things to happen so quickly, and I know that things usually grow slowly.

The first one was a spiral of tiny footprints with this written over it:

Long long ago, when the world was still warm, God's Mother, the Queen of Heaven gave birth to the universe, and this is how it happened. She felt such joy that she began to dance and as she danced, her footprints formed the spiral of the universe. She combed the stars out of her hair, then gathered up a handful and pressed them together to form the moon and the sun. She carefully placed them in the sky. For many years she lived alone in the sky, above the clouds, and when the world became cool, she made a cloak for herself from the blue starry sky, and she sat and rocked on the crescent moon and watched the oceans tides rise and fall. She decided it was time to make fish for the sea and birds for the air and animals for the land. She caused the lightning to strike the sea and fish were born, she caused the thunder to fill the air and birds were born. She caused the earth to tremble and shudder and animals came into being.

Today I finished a piece, titled: "Then Sophia created the first birds, nine cranes, and she set them free to fly across the universe."

Winter is here!

Today I am actually enjoying the winter weather, I have a cup of Raspberry Cocoa near at hand, and an open day, with noting to do, how wonderful life is. The painting above is one I did Plein-aire, believe it or not! I went out to the Guadalupe river with a group of friends to paint, the leaves had fallen and all was grey/brown, I have a need for color, so I went searching for a beautiful bare tree and found this white sycamore along the bank. Even though the leaves are gone, the limbs were so lovely, and the aura of its life was apparent in it's form, so I painted what was not there, and this is where I arrived.

A Story about Red Dog

Here is a short story about Red Dog. She is a stray dog, has no collar, she has lived by her wits and she is good at it. She feels safe and confident in her world, as a pup she was "fixed" so she has only had to look after herself and she has no regrets. In the painting she is feeling so safe and confident in her alley that she is able to meditate and really feel the peace surround her. She deeply experiences the truth that Life is Good.
